Designing a visual identity

for environmental education.

Client:

Social Studies and History Education in the Anthropocene Network (SSHEAN) — Queen’s University

Project:

Led by Prof. Heather E. McGregor from Queen’s University, SSHEAN focuses on pedagogy, history, and climate education. The network creates lesson plans on climate change and environmental issues.

We developed their visual identity, including a logo, color scheme, typography, and templates. Our design balanced academic formality with accessibility, reflecting the program’s educational aspects. We used a co-design approach with participatory activities, feedback cycles, and communication. We mapped climate education initiatives from an Anthropocene perspective, guiding our visual language. The color palette was inspired by forest greens, turquoise waters, and ochre-orange mushrooms. The mushroom spore print logo symbolizes collaboration, growth, and urgent environmental action.
